Sajid Javid headed the press conference today, started to announce various positive steps going forward in the battle of Covid-19 and the current pandemic that we all find ourselves in (pan NOT plandemic for those at the back).

➡️ Antivirals
The Health Secretary stated the UK has secured two contracts for antivirals before MHRA approval, these antivirals are molnupiravir and rotonavir. We have managed to get 480,000 doses of Molnupiravir produced by Merck and 250,000 doses of Rotonavir produced by Pfizer.

➡️ Children
The Health Secretary also noted that all 12 to 15 year old can book an appointment and go to any number of vaccination centres across the UK.

➡️ Vaccination and Boosters
4,000,000 people have so far taken a booster vaccination, the guidance is that if there’s a gap of 6 months since your second vaccination it’s recommended to get a booster. So far the vaccines have prevented 24million infections.

Taking a Flu vaccine as well this winter is also very beneficial, the UK has 35million doses of Flu vaccine this year to give to individuals in order to combat this virus. Last year the UK saw their best vaccination against Flu ever!

130,000 lives have been saved so far with vaccination!! Amazing that this has happened.

Strengthening the vaccination programme to those people who need a booster and other people that have not gotten a first or second dose yet.

➡️ Dexamethasone
This drug has been very successful so far in saving lives, worldwide this drug has saved 1,000,000 lives so far and saved 22,000 live within the UK. Current UK Data

➡️ UK Covid Data
Data from 19th October 2021:
179 deaths
124 hospitalised
49,139 cases

Vaccines will play a fantastic part so far against this pandemic, with more people taking boosters and their second doses, the UK has worked with localised areas so people have local access to vaccination.

➡️ Modelling scenarios
From Flu deaths, a hypothetical modelling scenario has shown us that 60,000 lives COULD be lost this winter, followed by 100,000 cases per day also could be seen as the winter season hits us.

Very helpful link to explain what Data Modelling is within science and the types of models used to get to a hypothetical situation of a potential scenario. (Source: https://www.visionlearning.com/en/library/Process-of-Science/49/Modeling-in-Scientific-Research/153)

➡️ Restrictions
No restrictions have been announced, no lockdowns, no masks, nothing.

➡️ Conclusion
Sajid Javid was spot on with the science in this press conference, the way he explained everything is such a great and understandable way to the data of the current aspects we have within the pandemic currently. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the whole press conference went, however, I would have liked to have seen masking return to indoor settings, cannot have everything I suppose.
