SADS — No Link To Covid Vaccines
Today’s Medium article will address the new false claim circulating online, that SADS (Sudden arrhythmic death syndrome) is falsely linked to Covid-19-related vaccines when someone dies suddenly from cardiac arrest. So without further ado, let’s get into today’s article.
➡️ What is SADS?
Sudden arrhythmic death syndrome is when someone dies suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac arrest, but the cause of the cardiac arrest can’t be found. A cardiac arrest is when your heart suddenly stops pumping blood around your body. This stops your breathing and starves your brain of oxygen. [1]

➡️ Basic Stats & Data on SADS/Cardiac Arrest
Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in the UK.
The annual incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is approximately 55 per 100,000 inhabitants. Most cardiac arrests (72%) occur in the home or workplace (15%). Half of all OHCA are witnessed by a bystander. [1]
In the UK, 100,000 people die every year due to sudden cardiac arrest. It’s the nation’s biggest killer, killing twice as many people as lung cancer, and over three times as many as stroke. Sudden cardiac arrest is rare in young adults, but it does claim over 600 young lives every year. [2]
In the UK there are over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) a year where emergency medical services attempt to resuscitate the victim. However, the survival rate is low — just 1 in 10 people in the UK survive an OHCA. [3]
Sudden arrhythmic death syndrome affects around 500 people in the UK every year. [4]
One survey study conducted [5] within the UK concluded the following: Deaths from SADS occur predominantly in young males. When compared with official mortality, the incidence of SADS may be up to eight times higher than estimated: more than 500 potential SADS cases per annum in England. Families with SADS carry genetic cardiac disease, placing them at risk of further sudden deaths.

➡️ Debunking the False Claims
One of the most shared links online where this claim may have or may not have originated from an Instagram post [1], which makes an unsubstantiated claim that SADS is the new word for vaccine deaths. The claim made is unsupported by insufficient scientific evidence.
To add more substantial proof that vaccines are not the cause of (SADS) whatsoever is that each and every death has to go through an NHS code [2] on each death certificate which would identify the cause of death. In addition to this code, the ONS [3] stated — “deaths where “Sudden Adult Death Syndrome” or “Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome” are mentioned on the death certificate are recorded with an ICD-10 code of R96 or I49.9 respectively.” All of this information can be publicly available to anyone via a Freedom of Information request to the Office of National Statistics.
With a simple Dataset search from the ONS [4], we can find in the May 2022 dataset that 43 deaths registered in England and Wales featured the codes ICD-10 code of R96 or I49.9 since March 2020. So the prevalence rate of this isn’t so high whatsoever.

➡️ Conclusion
As we can see from the above information and the basic stats, there’s no way to causally say that SADS is caused by Covid-19 vaccination, the claim has no scientific evidence to support the statement, which puts the claim to rest once and for all.
